Prius feedback?

Definitely non-knitting content here.

Does anyone out there own a 2004 Prius? We test drove a 2005 this weekend, and I'm interested, but wary. I'm doing online research, but I'd feel better if someone with real-world experience could comment on the car, especially reliability and power. Granted, owning one for one year probably only means a few oil changes, but any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

  • It's made by Toyota, which has a reputation for reliability. If I was in the market for a hybrid, I'd buy the Prius.

  • We've had our Prius (2004) since July and love it. I've clocked about 12,000 miles on it so far (the road trip to Seattle via the Oregon coastline helped that number along). I average around 45 mpg. It's big and roomy, it's comfortable for me and my passengers, it has oodles of trunk space and seat space, plus little secret compartments all over the place. It's cute, it's great in rush hour traffic (when the gas engine shuts off and lets the electric engine take over), it's got great pep, it does mountains well (see note on trip to Seattle). You change the oil every 5000 miles instead of every 3, you never have to get it smogged...have I convinced you yet, or do I need to go on as to why it's an awesome car?

  • Wow, Jenipurr - you're now making ME want to look at a Prius!

Don't forget - Cameron Diaz and Gwyneth drive Priuses. ;-)

  • Thanks Jenipurr, that's just the info that I'm looking for. Now I just have to find a buyer for my current car and wait the 2-3 mos for the Prius!
