In the garden

We're weeks away from harvesting fruits and vegetables from the garden. The birds and squirrels are more active in the yard these days. I just know they're eyeing all of our food. I hope the netting that I put up will be enough to keep them out.

The paste tomato plant has already been raided by the squirrel, so I covered it with netting too.

Speaking of tomatoes, we have 12 plants this year. Most of them are heirloom tomatoes--Black Krim, German Stripe, Purple Brandywine--and we have some Sungolds and Early Girls. Most of them are planted on the east side of our yard along with the beans.

The Kentucky Wonder Beans are starting to flower and I can see beans beginning to form. Can you see it?

Here, let me zoom in.

  • Bean there, done that... They're coming along nicely.

We have friends who built a fence around their fruit trees such that the bird netting stretched around them all in a square topped off with netting across the top and netting across the gate. Enter and you're critter free, but they had to be very careful to keep everything pruned down low.
