Disappointed

I can't even put into words how disappointed I am in the American public. How bad does it have to get before we as a nation stand up and demand a change? Apparently it's not bad enough for 51% of the voters.

1 Comments:

  • Bill and I were so bummed yesterday. We watched the concession and kept saying "How can 51% of america think he is on the right track??" Here are some of our thoughts, in case they help:

    - We can no longer leave activism to others. We have to get into the mix.

    - The two camps have completely different interests. Us: environment, poverty, war, deficit, health care
Them: anti-abortion, anti-gay marriage, not being bossed around by foreigners and taxes
We need to find ways to talk about things we even slightly agree on, so we can find ways to talk

    - Both camps primarily spend time with people who think like them. I talked to a pro-Bush gal on Tuesday and could NOT believe her info on Prop 66 ( appropriate use of 3 strikes ) and how she wasn't voting for it because it was just one guy trying to get his son out of jail. On the other hand, she didn't believe me at all about Diebold voting machines being dangerous to democracy. We need to cross the streams more, get in conversation with the opposition and at least know where they are arguing from!

    - Never match the youth vote (didn't turn out!) against the Christian Coalition (turned out in massive numbers). Need to find new ways to recruit committed voters.
