CA State Fair 2012 - Part 4, Victor Chaney and The Flying Marbellos

California State Fair
July 12-29
1600 Exposition Blvd
Sacramento, CA

Victor Chaney specializes in kinetic art and his pieces were featured at the Fine Arts Exhibition. He was there in person, answering questions and keeping his wonderful machines going. I asked if his sculptures were on display elsewhere during the year, and he said that he's a dentist and they're in his waiting room. How cool is that? No magazines needed.

Here's Victor standing next to The Flying Marbellos. This rolling ball sculpture has a helicopter, a cannon, an elevator, and an automatic recovery mechanism for balls that fall off the track. He said that he had to sort through ~120 marbles to find ones that were the right size and weight for this to work properly. Clearly it's all in the details.
