It's not what you think
We don't buy ice cream often, but the warmer weather had us making an evening run to the grocery store for a cool treat.
In the freezer section we kept an eye out for sale tags. Score! Dreyer's on sale! New packaging, but so what? The contents is still Dreyer's, right?
Right.
Dreyer's new packaging
But, riddle me this: When is a half gallon not a half gallon?
A: When it's a half gallon minus a pint.
1/2 gallon minus 1 pint
Tricky.
It's one way for manufacturers to raise prices without appearing to raise prices. Don't assume what you're getting is what you think you're getting... that box of higher fiber 50% whole grain macaroni and cheese (I know, I know, don't dog me about this one) may have one fewer serving in it than its lower fiber counterpart, and the Peet's coffee that you buy at the grocery store isprobably 2 ounces FOUR ounces short of a pound (okay, not new but still).
Lesson learned, now more than ever reading labels is a must, if nothing else to understand what you're getting for your money.
Gotta go, my ice cream is melting.

It's annoying, isn't it? Some sugar and flour manufacturers are packaging in less than 5 lb bags. And what used to be a pound bag of M&Ms is now 14 oz.

Yeah, well at least a "lb" of Peet's is still a lb if you buy it at Peet's. I'm not sure a gallon of gasoline was ever a gasoline, but a cold gallon of gasoline is more fuel than a hot gallon. Gasoline expands with heat. I didn't realize that they're doing it with flour too. Oh, and let's not forget about those ever-shrinking yogurt containers.

Yeah...the Dreyer's has been 1.75 gallons for a while now, and just recently they changed to the 1.5 gallon package. Sneaky.

They keep skimming off the top, eventually they'll run out of product to skim. It's sad.
